i received another call tonight; this person was given the silentlambs site about an hour ago.

how can i convey the feeling when you hear the same tearful words over and over again?

i thought i was the only one.

I remember that reference now to the Catholic Church settlement.

Those 3 basic requests for the WTS to uphold that silentlambs listed are the least the Society should do. I understand what you mean about how they think, or perhaps convince themselves, they are actually protecting God's organization from reproach. But I guess they are so far removed from reality they cannot hear the cries of these children and the cries of ones who have lost a loved one, a child, wife, husband, parent, any family member or friend to the policies of blood.

Perhaps if they had to listen first hand, face-to-face to any of these victims, just perhaps their own eyes and hearts would be opened.

We all hope that more of the "walking wounded" you describe, will come forward and feel that ecstasy of the latest one, who has communicated with you, that now will be heard and acknowledged as a victim.

Welcome to the board. I just noticed that you just joined us 2 days ago and found your introduction post. I hope you find your answers to your situation from the replies you got and hope it works for you.

You asked there what the Dateline reference was all about so naturally your post here is understandable. We've been discussing it for months and are keenly looking forward to the exposure the WTS will have to face from the airing of that show. This will be a "no-holds barred" type documentary that will expose the WTS covering up and hiding cases of child abuse within the congregations for years with actual facts, names, dates, places etc...not lies or made-up stories as the staunch JWs will try to say.

As has been said, the date and time will be shouted out loud and clear here so no one misses it. Clicking onto the the Dateline website will give you access to their offer of giving you a news alert on each high-profile story they are airing each time. It gives you an icon to click on to in the bottom right corner of your computer that will flash each time there is a "news-alert". That way you won't miss the air-date for sure.

Looking forward to hearing more of your progress with helping your JW girlfriend see the real "light".

Hello Silentlambs:

As I read your post and the questions you asked, my gut did a complete flip-flop as it always does with this subject.

A friend and I were just discussing these questions yesterday. How can anyone in a congregation hiding these atrocities expect to stand before God and have His blessing?

How can any member of the GB who wants change but has been too afraid to fight harder to bring it about, expect God's blessing on the WTS and himself?

How can they stay with the org while all this is happening, and close their eyes to it by waiting and just hoping for changes? Perhaps they should be the ones to hear the tearful gut-wrenching story you just described and see how they can sleep at night.

I well know how passive and non-questioning we were all taught to be, and it has been detrimental to many peoples' happiness in this short life we have. Too many people have let themselves be manipulated by guilt, and it has to stop.

Especially your question about God's hand in this exposure, hit home. That specifically was a point my friend and I discussed. We too could not answer it...how can anyone know the answer? But I'm glad that others are thinking in that direction as I have to admit, my faith, and even belief, in God is really being put to the test right now.

Additionally, you mentioned the settlement in California recently. I'm sorry but did I miss something? Can you say more here on it, or direct me to where this was already discussed on another thread?

As for a public apology on a video, I'm sure we will all settle for nothing less than a complete apology, no-excuses, no subtle hint of it being anyone elses' fault but theirs, no more double-speak BS.

instead we'll be gathering at the scenic spot of........ well, we'll tell you by e-mail.

the weekend of conviviality will be in october, sunday october 21st to be precise.. more later, but make a note in your diaries/calendars/personal organisers now.. the weather will be warmer by then so we should be able to dress for the occasion.

will there be leather in sight this time?

Hi Farkel:

Your words touched me this morning. It brought back a flood of memories with your reference to the have's and the have not's in every congregation and how despite our smug opinion of ourselves at that time, yes there was a distinction, a favouritism.

And the "admonition" we received to show "charity" but it was to be of a spiritual kind to those who were hungry and needed clothes and help, just makes me cringe now. It makes me remember the times I pushed the desire to help someone materially with the excuse that "we can help them so much better with spiritual food...it will give them everlasting life". Too bad if they starved before they had a chance to read any of the mags. And "at least we didn't let them come the KH just to get something material...it had to be for the right reason..to learn about God."

I could go into detail but bluesapphire's account really sums the whole situation up vividly.

I feel moved by this because right at this time in my life I'm am happy to be here learning, getting stronger in my convictions even though what I'm learning can cause me upset and turmoil.

Someone near to me is giving me flack for coming here if what is done here is JW bashing. I don't consider this JW bashing....I call it exposing the truth. Yes, it is righteous indignation we feel all those of us who have been trodden down and are trying to pick ourselves up and get some sanity back into our lives.

Exposing the WTS's hypocrisy and deceit only strengthens me and I hope it enlightens anyone lurking here out of curiosity or is searching for answers and helps them to "make their move".

Hello folks:

I'm bringing this back up to the top in the hope that many more who have not posted their reasons for being here, will do so.

So many good answers have been given already, but even if you have the same reason as someone else...by stating so, you are just validating the value of this place.

There are so many more posters that have joined us since the last reply to this thread, so here's hoping there will be somemore out there, newbies and "longtimers", who will add their feelings about being here.

i've been given some sketchy information that says the cbc is presenting its program straight talk tonight, possibly 7 pm eastern time.. in that program james kostelniuk's book and personal story will be covered.. "sheep among wolves," the story of murder in a jehovah's witness community.

perhaps someone in canada could check this out and publish details below, or correct this

Hi Peter:

Yes I taped it. I want to review it tomorrow as I kept getting interupted while it was on. But, from what I saw, the interviewer was very keen on highlighting how the WTS weilded its power over his family and the only friends he had, through shunning him in the first place and how, through its influence, through mind-control, it could make him feel powerless to fight them to get custody of his children, which in turn could have saved their lives.

The point was also stressed how devastating it was at his own childrens' memorial service, he was not acknowledged by anyone as even being their father. He was totally ignored through the shunning practice. It was made very plain how disgusting a practice this is.

He didn't find out until much later, from the step-father/murderer himself, that he had molested the little girl. He showed how mind-control of the WTS's previous training even influenced him at that time to "forgive the molester".

I'll have to watch it again to get more details, and to see how good my copy is and I'll let you know.

I remember not too long ago, the elders were called to a special meeting by the CO (I think to a meeting at the Canadian Bethel) regarding some apostate activity going on. I don't know what the activity was...perhaps something like this episode.

Seeing what the legalities are is worth looking in to. Maybe Chris knows.

Outnfree had some experience with the local authorities when putting up her posters. She had to call them because she was being harassed and chased in her car by the assembly goon squad attendants. The authorities gave her some good advice on something about getting a permit next time. Maybe she'll reply to this thread.
